West Ham have seen a fresh £18million bid for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney rejected, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports’ correspondent Bryan Swanson has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Hammers have seen their colossal eight-figure offer rejected by the Championship side.

Sky reporter Kaveh Solhekol previously reported that West Ham had made an opening £15million bid for the left-footed central midfielder, but that Fulham were reluctant in their stance and wouldn’t even consider £40million.

Good move for West Ham?

Cairney is certainly a talented player in the Championship, but there are question marks over whether he could replicate top form in the Premier League.

The Scotland international is a technically gifted midfielder and his return of 13 goals and 12 assists last season shows his threat going forward.

David Moyes could do with an attack-minded midfielder in the centre of the park, but pushing the £20million barrier for Cairney would be a huge risk.

The 27-year-old is an integral part of Fulham’s side right now, but West Ham need proven top-flight talents.

Likely to happen?

West Ham have tried and failed again in their pursuit for Cairney and it seems like this deal is not going to happen in the January window.

Fulham are currently vying for promotion in the Championship and are not going to lose one of their most influential players midway through the campaign unless the Hammers pull out silly money.
