West Ham eye defender Masina

|

West Ham are interested in signing defender Adam Masina from Italian club Bologna, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Sky Sports’ Italy correspondent Di Marzio has claimed on his personal website that the Hammers are eyeing the 24-year-old.

The left-back is an ever-present in the starting XI for Bologna, who are currently mid-table in Serie A.

The Mirror have previously reported that Masina is on Tottenham’s radar for the January window and he was lined up as a potential replacement for Danny Rose amid Manchester United interest.

Rose has remained a Spurs player so far in the January window and that has opened the door for West Ham to swoop in for Masina.

Good move for West Ham?

West Ham do already have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku as left-back options, but strangely they could still do with another option in that position.

Cresswell has looked more at home as part of a back three, while Masuaku is an attack-minded player that is thriving in a wing-back role.

Masina is a more traditional left-back option that has become a consistent performer in Italy and would be a decent signing for David Moyes.

The Italian full-back is renowned for being a powerhouse defender and is strong in one-on-one situations.

Likely to happen?

Spurs’ interest in Masina appears to have faded and any move for him would depend on a potential Rose exit.

That leaves West Ham in the driving seat for the left-back, but for now reports suggest they are merely eyeing the defender and are yet to come forward with a bid.
