Tottenham have joined the chase for defender Jannik Vestergaard from German club Borussia Monchengladbach, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian news outlet reports that Spurs have joined their Premier League and north London rivals Arsenal in monitoring the 25-year-old.

It is understood that Italian club Inter Milan are also interested in the Denmark international and are open to the idea of a loan deal in January with a view to a permanent summer move.

The report details that both Spurs and Arsenal are lining up transfers for the summer instead of January.

The 6ft 5in enforcer is renowned for his physical approach, but he is also a ball-playing centre-back that is strong in possession.

Good move for Spurs?

Vestergaard has all the attributes to be a success in England and the powerful defender has impressed this season in Germany.

The centre-back has made 19 appearances across all competitions for Monchengladbach and managed three goals in return.

His possession-based style makes him a great fit for a Mauricio Pochettino side, but there is hardly a lack of shortages in defence at the north London club.

Spurs should consider strengthening other areas of the pitch over defence despite Vestergaard being an attractive option.

Likely to happen?

Spurs seem to be a long way off securing a deal for Monchengladbach’s defender and a January switch appears to be out of the question.

Inter appear to be in the driving seat for his signature and a good World Cup performance in the summer with Denmark could only enhance his growing reputation.
