Tottenham are interested in signing midfielder Fabian Ruiz from Spanish top-flight club Real Betis, according to Marca.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Premier League trio Spurs, Leicester and Manchester United are all keen on the 21-year-old.

It is understood that Italian club Roma are also in the running and are willing to pay his £13.2m release clause.

The report details that the potential January exit of Ruiz is looming of Betis and ideally they would like to renew his contract to raise his buyout fee.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs have been quiet so far in the January window with no new arrivals and supporters will want a couple of additions to bolster their squad.

Ruiz is an upcoming talent at Betis that has become a regular feature in their starting XI and represents Spain at Under-21 level.

He can play in either a central-midfield role or further forward as an advanced playmaker, with two goals and two assists to his name so far this season.

It is unlikely the Betis man would go into the Spurs starting XI right now based on their current options, but is one for the future and could be snapped up now on the chip.

Likely to happen?

Roma appear to be leading the chase for Ruiz in January and his current release clause is tempting clubs to move for him.

Spurs are only interested in the Spaniard at this stage and a deal appears a long way off.

However, the north London club have opted to buy into youth in recent times and Ruiz would fit that description.
