Leeds United will not sign a new centre-forward in the closing days of the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The football news site has revealed a major development in the Whites’ well documented search for a new striker and Thomas Christiansen’s side are not expected to welcome a new attacker to Elland Road.

It is understood that the Yorkshire giants have been chasing a new striker this month to help their promotion bid, but it appears they do not have enough money in their budget to bring in a prolific goalscorer.

The report details that a potential goalkeeper replacement for Andy Lonergan if he joins Sunderland is the only business left in January the club will pursue.

Leeds have been highly active in the window so far and welcomed the likes of Adam Forshaw, Laurens De Bock, Aapo Halme, Yosuke Ideguchi and Sam Dalby to the club.

However, the latest report claims they will not be able to follow up their spending with a new striker.

The Daily Mail has reported that Leeds are leading the chase to sign West Brom’S highly-rated forward Tyler Roberts, but that move could now be in doubt.

OPINION

It would seem strange that Leeds’ transfer budget has run out in the final stages of the window as if they fork out on a proven goalscorer that could seriously improve their chances of promotion to the Premier League. However, Thomas Christiansen may need to work with the current options in the squad in the second half of the season and the recent display from Pierre-Michel Lasogga against Millwall was encouraging. The 26-year-old has shown he can score goals at a top level and the Leeds fans would love for him to find his goalscoring boots in the next few months. Meanwhile, the club will need to continue relying on goals from all over the pitch in the shape of Pablo Hernandez, Samu Saiz and Kemar Roofe.
