Nottingham Forest are in talks with Watford to sign goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Championship outfit are holding discussing with the Premier League side about the 30-year-old.

It is understood that Forest are trying to land the 6ft 8in colossus, but it’s unspecified whether that is a loan or a permanent deal.

Pantilimon has been out on loan with Spanish club Deportivo La Courna this campaign and made just seven appearances across all competitions.

The Romanian shot-stopper does have a Premier League title medal after playing seven times in the 2013/14 campaign when Manchester City won the English top flight.

Good move for Forest?

Forest could do with a goalkeeper reinforcement in the closing stages of the January transfer window and need someone to try put pressure on current number one Jordan Smith.

Smith, 23, is still a fairly inexperienced player and has been criticised at times for not commanding his box well enough.

The arrival of Pantilimon could in fact help the youngster’s development and the two could fight for the number one spot.

Pantilimon has played for some top clubs during his career and the move to a Championship club would make sense for him.

Likely to happen?

Pantilimon has not been a regular during his spell with Deportivo and it would not be a surprise to see him switch to the City Ground, but time is certainly against Forest to get this deal over the line.
