Everton have submitted a bid to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Callum Wright, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Toffees have made an offer worth more than £1million to try land the highly-rated talent.

It is understood that the 17-year-old is also on the radar of Premier League clubs Tottenham, Leicester and Stoke City.

The report details Everton face a tough fight to try win the race for Wright, who is currently playing for Blackburn’s Under-23s side.

Good move for Everton?

The Toffees do already have an overload of midfielders in their squad, but picking up the in-demand Wright seems like a no-brainer.

However, the Merseyside club will be kicking themselves as they released him at the age of 13 and will now have to pay a seven-figure sum to bring him back to Goodison Park.

Everton have managed to help develop several young talents in recent years and the Blackburn prodigy should be snapped up ahead of rivals.

He may not have played a senior game yet in his career, but there is clearly a reason top-flight clubs are circling.

Likely to happen?

Everton are certainly in pole position to sign English talent Wright and have firmed up their initial interest with a bid to show their intent.

However, the deal may not be done as Blackburn will surely want to get a good sum for their rising star and the competition from Spurs in particular could be tough.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino should be a major pulling factor to attract English talents to the north London club given his recent successes with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
