Everton are interested in signing West Brom’s powerhouse striker Salomon Rondon, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Page 52, Thursday January 25) that the Toffees could go head to head with Merseyside rivals Liverpool for the Venezuela international.

It is understood that the Premier League sides may battle for the 28-year-old in the remainder of the January transfer window.

The report details that West Brom could sell their attacker for over £15million.

Rondon is the first-choice centre-forward at the Hawthorns and is renowned for being a big physical presence.

Good move for Everton?

Rondon has proven himself to be a decent player in English football during his time with the Baggies, but is a player that ultimately Everton should steer clear of.

The striker has scored 23 goals in 105 games for West Brom and his presence makes him well suited to play the lone role in attack.

However, he has shown he is too inconsistent front of goal and is hardly the player that could fire 20-plus goals a season at Goodison Park.

Sam Allardyce already spent big on signing striker Cenk Tosun in January and it would make little sense signing Rondon, with Oumar Niasse and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also viable options.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Everton will sign another forward player in the rest of the window and are yet to make an official approach for Rondon.

Liverpool would prove a big hurdle if their interest was stepped up, but the most likely outcome at this point seems to be he will stay with West Brom.
