Newcastle United forward Rolando Aarons is undergoing a medical at Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Wednesday [12:46pm] that Aarons, 22, is putting the finishing touches to a move to join the Italian top-flight club after turning down interest from Championship side Hull.

Aarons has not played much football for Newcastle this season with just five appearances in the senior squad across all competitions.

The wide-forward, who plays mainly on the left side of attack, has been on the books at St James’ Park since his 2014 move from Bristol City, but in four years, he has made just 27 appearances in the first-team.

Aarons is not the only player who seems to be leaving the Magpies on deadline day as Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Anderlecht have agreed a deal to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Good move for Newcastle?

Aarons was not getting any football at St James’ Park and it is about time he leaves to continue his development elsewhere. The rapid winger has never left the Magpies on loan as has been sat in their reserves squad ever since he was signed from Bristol City almost four years ago. That has been a very poor decision by Newcastle, who should really be looking to help their young players progress, not hold them back. Aarons was once a bright talent but that no longer seems to be the case. It’s best to let him leave for his own good.

Likely to happen?

It seems pretty much nailed on that Aarons will leave Tyneside before the transfer window slams shut. As he is said to be having his medical with Verona, it seems that the deal is at a very advanced stage and there would be little else to do other than wrap up some finer details. It would be a massive surprise to see this deal break down now.
