West Ham are edging closer to signing Preston forward Jordan Hugill with a medical scheduled in London ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Wednesday [04:24pm] that the Hammers have agreed an £8million deal with North End for the 25-year-old, who looks set to become David Moyes’ latest addition at the London Stadium.

It is understood that Hugill is on his way to the capital to put the finishing touches to his move.

Preston, who are top-half in the Championship sitting in ninth, left Hugill out of their squad to play Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night with Alex Neil stating that he didn’t feel he was mentally prepared to play.

The former Port Vale striker has made 29 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring 10 goals in the process.

Good move for West Ham?

Hugill has done well at Preston in the last season and a half but it is a bit of a risk for the Hammers to sign him into the Premier League. For most of his time at Deepdale, the striker has been linked with the likes of Wolves and Leeds, so to go to the London Stadium is a huge step up. Hugill’s goalscoring record is not great this season but that be down to the fact he was reported to have handed in a transfer request in the summer. Time will tell if this is a good signing, but it looks unlikely.

Likely to happen?

With the target man travelling to London to undergo a medical, it seems that this deal is all but done. Hugill is not someone who has had many injuries woes in his time at Preston so it should be completed without a hitch. David Gold and David Sullivan may have to be wary of a huge backlash from this signing.
