Celtic are set to sign Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain on loan until the end of the season as Brendan Rodgers’ search for a replacement for Craig Gordon comes to a mad eleventh-hour end, according to Sky Sports Scotland.

The broadcaster claimed on its official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that Bain, 26, will end his loan spell at Hibernian and be sent out to the Hoops, who need a new shot-stopper with Gordon, 35, ruled out for three months.

It is understood that Hibs will be signing Scott Allan on loan from the Hoops, ending his current deal at Dundee while Simon Murray will leave Easter Road to join the Dark Blues on a temporary basis.

The three Scottish Premiership sides have done well to work in unison to pull off this triple deadline day deal and now they face a race against the clock to wrap up the finer details before the 11pm cut-off.

Good move for Celtic?

Rodgers needs a new goalkeeper without doubt. Gordon’s injury is a shattering blow to the club’s chances of winning a second treble in a row as well as going further in the Europa League. Bain is experienced in the Scottish Premiership and is an improvement on Dorus de Vries. He is approaching the peak of his career and could be someone that the Bhoys may look to sign permanently in the summer. As for Allan, the ex-West Brom and Portsmouth midfielder has nearly had more loan spells in his career than he has goals. It’s about time they sell him for good.

Likely to happen?

Three clubs working in a triple deal like this could become confusing, frustrating and time consuming. But all sides appear eager to get all of the necessary paperwork signed off so it is very much achievable. It would be an unmitigated disaster if Celtic failed to sign a goalkeeper on Wednesday, so this simply has to go through.
