Rangers had a £300,000 bid for dismissed by Hamilton for Greg Docherty, but the Gers are expected to try again with a fresh bid, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim that the Gers are set to submit an increased offer for the centre-midfielder on Tuesday morning, with Hamilton wanting £600,000 for Docherty.

The Daily Record report reveals that is unknown whether the Light Blues’ second offer will come close to Hamilton’s valuation.

The same report believes Rangers will have to compete with Preston, Millwall, Swansea and Cardiff, who are all considering making a move for the 21-year-old.

Graeme Murty has made Docherty a priority signing, after he has impressed at Hamilton over the last two seasons.

The centre-midfielder, who is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or as a right midfielder, has featured over 100 times for Hamilton since breaking into the senior team.

This season, the 21-year-old has shown his creative qualities as he has created six goals, while also scoring three, in 25 appearances this season.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. The midfield is an exciting prospect, who can instantly have an impact on the first-team.

The 21-year-old is an energetic presence that could drive Rangers to victory, with his versatility also proving useful.

With Docherty becoming a creative presence at Hamilton; there’s no reason why he couldn’t have the same impact when featuring for the Gers.

Likely to happen?

Murty’s side are clearly keen to get a deal down, as they look set to instantly come back in with a second bid.

Hamilton’s £600,000 demand may be a stumbling block, as it’s over double the Gers’ original offer.

However, with Murty making him a priority, the budget may just be stretched to secure his signature.
