Rangers have confirmed their third addition of the January transfer window as Jason Cummings joins on loan from Nottingham Forest, and all the signs are now pointing towards a positive end to the season for the Light Blues.

As announced on the club’s official website on Monday evening, one-time Scotland international Cummings has joined the club on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy.

He joins Brighton winger Jamie Murphy and QPR midfielder Sean Goss as new recruits at Ibrox this month, with all three players joining on initial loan deals.

Rangers fans took to Twitter after the announcement to voice their delight at the signing, and they are right to be feeling positive about the January window.

It is the signing of Cummings which really confirms that Rangers are headed in an upwards direction under Graeme Murty.

The 22-year-old, who was recently handed his Scotland debut in a 1-0 loss to the Netherlands at Pittodrie in November, returns to Scottish football after a failed spell down south with Forest.

Cummings scored four goals in 17 appearances at the City Ground, with two of those coming in a famous 3-2 win over Premier League side Newcastle United in the EFL Cup.

After being told he was deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Aitor Karanka, Cummings has decided to move back to Scotland where he knows he can make an impact.

The speedy forward scored 71 goals in 149 appearances for former club Hibernian during a four-year spell at the club, and it is that record which Rangers will be focusing upon.

If Cummings can score close to one goal every two games between now and the end of the season, Rangers will easily finish in second in the Premiership, and could push for a first Scottish Cup since 2009.

Just finishing second would be a fantastic achievement for Rangers considering the situations they have found themselves in this year, and would be a great credit to Murty, who has led the club well since being appointed as manager.

Going back to Cummings, he will be able to team up with the Premiership’s top scorer in Alfredo Morelos to form a deadly partnership that will strike fear into the hearts of every defence in the league.

With new signing Murphy and Josh Windass storming down the wings, Gers finally have a strikeforce capable of doing some real damage.

Fellow new recruit Goss has shown his quality already with two dominating performances in the Florida Cup against Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians, and with him bossing the midfield, things are certainly looking up.

That is not to mention the fact that the club are reportedly on the verge of securing Norwich City captain Russell Martin on loan until the end of the season, and are also chasing Hamilton star Greg Docherty.

The signing of Martin would mean that Rangers have strengthened significantly in all three areas of the pitch, and that would be a highly successful window for the club.

It would also be a successful window for Murty, who has brought a sense of dignity back to the club after a tough period following the sacking of Caixinha, and Rangers fans must be delighted with the impact that he is having.
