Rangers have announced that former players Kevin Thomson and Gregory Vignal have joined their youth coaching staff, and former Wolves assistant Stuart Taylor has taken on a role with the development squad.

The club announced the news on their official website on Tuesday afternoon.

Midfielder Thomson spent three years at Rangers between 2007 and 2010, winning five major trophies with the Light Blues during a highly successful spell.

French defender Vignal spent a year at the club between 2004 and 2005, winning a domestic double as Gers regained the Premiership title and won the League Cup.

Thomson and Vignal will take up a role with the club’s Intermediate Academy, comprising of Under-13s to Under-15s.

Taylor, who is a former Wolves first team and Aston Villa Under-23 coach, joins the club in a role with the development squad, essentially replacing Graeme Murty who has taken up first-team duty.

OPINION

Thomson’s return will be a popular one with fans, with the midfielder enjoying a highly-successful three years at the club during his career. Thomson has since set up his own youth academy, and his work there has obviously been noticed by his former club who have solicited his coaching services. Vignal’s return will also be welcomed by all involved, and the addition of Taylor is another brilliant appointment. He spent time working under Paul Lambert at Wolves, and that experience will be crucial as he enters his role with the development squad.
