Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has dropped a bombshell by declaring he wants to play for a ‘bigger club’ in the Premier League at the end of the season.

In an interview with Colombian TV channel Win Sports, Morelos insisted that he was very happy at Ibrox, but admitted that he was looking to move on at the end of the campaign.

“If you do things well, there is always someone watching, I do not know what can happen from here to the end of the season. I hope to continue doing things very well and look for a bigger club in the Premier League. I’m very positive, I’m never going to give up, my dream is to be in the Colombia team. I think I’m very young with a future ahead and I hope to do things well, I hope the opportunity comes.

“I am having a very nice experience here, they have welcomed me in the best way. I have done things well and happy with the day to day life I am living and what I am doing. It’s not easy, you live a lot of the atmosphere of football, I’m in one of the biggest clubs in Scotland, the fans are crazy both on the court and outside of it.

“The fans love me because I answered them in a good way. I am very positive, since I came I always wanted to play, be a starter and score goals. Here in Scotland soccer is more competitive, stronger, with more fans, and I had to adapt to the rhythm, which is very different,” he said.

The 21-year-old Colombian was a £1million summer signing from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki, where he had scored 46 goals in 62 appearances for the club.

He hit the ground running at Ibrox, scoring six goals in his first six Premiership games, but a long scoring drought lasted three months before he starting firing again in December.

Morelos has four goals in his last six games, and is the Premiership’s top scorer with ten goals in 20 appearances so far.

His admission comes as a shock considering his agent came out and said how happy his client was at Rangers only last week, although he did only insist that he would not be leaving this month.

OPINION

This will come as a blow to Rangers fans. This is not like Morelos has come out and said he would like to play in the Premier League at some point, he actually seems to suggest he wants it to happen this summer. It is more of a surprise considering his agent’s comments last week, but in truth he was talking about an exit this month after speculation of a bid from England. All fans can hope for now is that Morelos continues his good form for the club into the second half of the season, and that he ends up staying in the summer.
