Alex McLeish shared that he believes Graeme Murty is capable of leading Rangers to a league title next season.

The former Gers manager also suggested that people are wrong to suggest that Rangers need to stop Celtic winning another league title this season.

“Let’s be honest, people say that Rangers have got to stop 10-in-a-row, but you’ve got to stop the next one,” stated McLeish, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“It can’t be about stopping 10-in-a-row, they’ve got to stop the next one, you can’t wait and plan for three years ahead.

“Graeme Murty has made some good advances and the players he’s added have been good, so they have to aim for the top.”

The Light Blues are currently third in the league after 22 games played, 11 points behind bitter rivals Celtic who lead the way.

If Brendan Rodgers’ side maintain their current position, it will be the 10th season in a row that the Hoops have won the Scottish Premiership.

OPINION

McLeish is spot on. With the gap currently being 11 points; while not impossible, Rangers are unlikely to stop Celtic winning another league title. However, after making some promising January signings, the Gers could easily mount a serious title challenge next season. While Rangers supporters may hate the fact that Celtic could lift the league title this season, if the Light Blues finished on top next season, they’d soon get over it. Who knows, maybe Rangers ending the streak next year, will see them start an impressive record of their own when it comes to winning league titles. As for now, if Murty’s team finish second in the league come May, then it would be an acceptable season.
