Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is now unlikely to join Rangers on loan with Alfredo Morelos set to stay at the club, according to the Daily Record

The newspaper claim in their live transfer blog (Wednesday, 17:04) that McBurnie is desperate to join the Light Blues, with the 21-year-old being a diehard boyhood fan.

The Record report that McBurnie’s camp are now hearing that star striker Morelos will stay at Ibrox for the rest of the season after being the subject of big-money interest from China.

It is said that if Morelos does stay, then Rangers will not move for another striker as they are already well-resourced up front.

Swansea reportedly want to strike a deal for McBurnie as soon as possible, and will therefore not wait around for Rangers to finalise their plans.

As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers rejected an improved £8million bid from Beijing Renhe for 21-year-old Morelos, who was keen to discuss a lucrative move to China.

The news that Morelos is now set to stay, with a deal for McBurnie off the cards, is a major development for Rangers as they look to close out what has been an extremely successful transfer window.

Good move for Rangers?

Well, it would have been a good move if Morelos was leaving.

The club were set to make a huge profit on the Colombian, who they bought for £1million in the summer, but it looks as though he will stay now.

That means that the club have sufficient resources up front for the rest of the season, and means a loan move for McBurnie makes no sense.

Likely to happen?

As reported, it looks as though McBurnie will either stay at the Liberty Stadium or go elsewhere on loan.

There is no reason for him to go to Ibrox now, and that means a move is extremely unlikely.
