Rangers are on the verge of three new signings as striker Jason Cummings undergoes a medical at the club, according to reports.

STV claim on their website that Cummings, 22, is having medical tests at the Glasgow giants ahead of a proposed loan move from Nottingham Forest.

The broadcaster report that the former Hibs star is one of two players Rangers hope to sign in the next few days with Scotland defender Russell Martin, 32, also close to sealing a move from Norwich.

The Scottish Daily Mail claim that the Glasgow giants are also working on a deal to sign Hamilton playmaker Greg Docherty.

Rangers made an initial approach to their Scottish Premiership rivals for Docherty, 21, last week and are now expected to follow up by tabling a formal bid for the highly rated Scotland Under-21 international.

OPINION

This transfer window is starting to really take shape in an exciting way for Rangers. Yet another overhaul is already well underway with the signings of Declan John, Jamie Murphy and Sean Goss (loan) already secured, and the club could take their haul of new arrivals to six by the end of the week. That would represent remarkably proactive conduct in the market and also provide manager Graeme Murty with a completely new group of players by the time the club return to competitive action. Martin is set to take Bruno Alves’ place as the experienced centre-back option, while Docherty is one for the present and also the future, a young Scot with the potential to be a star. It is Cummings, though, who could provide an immediate injection into a team that has looked severely lacking in the opening half of the campaign. Cummings switched south from Hibs in a £1million transfer last June and has found regular football hard to come by in the English Championship, but he has a fine track record in Scotland and will provide Murty with a valuable option up front alongside leading scorer Alfredo Morelos. With a medical underway, it appears that the first of the three deals is now done.
