Gordon Strachan has revealed that he regularly makes English clubs aware of Celtic’s Kieran Tierney when asked for a player to recommend.

The former Scotland manager holds a high opinion of the Hoops defender, 20, and shared that, when he is asked for advice in England, he points to Tierney as a player they should check out.

“At this moment, if anyone asks me down here I tell them he’s definitely the one you want in your team,” said Strachan as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“The one outstanding player we have is Tierney but he’s not going to win you games from that position. He’ll save you games and he’ll be a captain.

“He could be another Billy McNeill, stay at Celtic for ever and be one of their best captains of all time. You never know.”

Strachan didn’t reveal which clubs he has told about Tierney, nor which league they feature in.

Tierney has made 36 appearances across all competitions for the Bhoys this season, and impressed in Celtic’s Champions League campaign despite his side suffering heavy defeats in the competition.

The defender’s form this season saw him rewarded with a long contract extension, which signaled his desire to stay at the club until 2023.

OPINION

Strachan is providing clubs that seek his advice with a fantastic tip by recommending Tierney, although Celtic fans won’t be happy as the defender gets enough attention as it is. The young defender is an impressive prospect and English clubs should really take note of Strachan’s recommendation and check him out. However, English clubs may be put off by the fact Tierney signed a long-term deal, as it would mean they have to stump up a huge transfer fee to get him.
