Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Celtic players will only be allowed to leave if a tempting offer is made for someone who wants to go.

The Hoops boss revealed he wasn’t thinking about those who could potentially exit the club in January, but was just focused on players he could sign in order to strengthen his side.

“I haven’t even thought about that because I don’t see it happening,” confessed Rodgers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“My idea for this month is to strengthen, so I haven’t thought of losing anyone.

“If something came in that was difficult for the club and if the player wants to go then that’s another point.”

The Bhoys manager went on to share that the club would also need to have the right replacement in mind, if a player was set to depart.

The Scottish Sun report that Celtic are expecting bids for both Moussa Dembele and Jozo Simunovic in the January window.

Dembele has featured 21 times across all competition this season, scoring eight goals; while Simunovic has featured 19 times, despite being hampered by injury during this campaign.

OPINION

Rodgers seems surprisingly confident about Celtic’s ability to hold on to their key players during January, which will reassure fans. The Bhoys boss may be playing it cool, but at the very least it sounds like the Hoops will demand the highest price possible for their players. It’s also nice for supporters to hear that Rodgers is planning on strengthening the team this month. So far, Celtic have been unusually quiet in the window, with their rivals, Rangers, appearing to be very active. While it’s true Celtic look all but certain to win the Scottish Premiership this season, with a Europa League campaign to deal with in the second-half of the campaign; more activity was expected.
