Swedish side Ostersunds have emerged as contenders to sign out-of-favour Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson, according to the Express.

The newspaper report that Henderson is well known to Billy Reid, the former Hamilton boss who is now assistant to Graham Potter at the Swedish side.

The Express claim that Italian Serie B outfit Bari are also interested in the 21-year-old central midfielder, along with Hibernian and Preston North End.

Henderson, who has played just once this season for the Hoops, is out of contract in the summer, and looks set for a Parkhead exit this month.

Ostersunds are currently preparing for the biggest game in the club’s history, as the Swedish minnows meet Premier League giants Arsenal in the last-32 of the Europa League in February.

Good move for Celtic?

The Hoops academy graduate has never quite made it at the club, having made just 37 appearances during his long stint at Parkhead.

Successful loan spells at Norwegian side Rosenborg and Hibernian, where he helped the club to their first Scottish Cup in over 100 years, show that Henderson has enough quality to make it elsewhere.

Ostersunds would be an interesting move for the 21-year-old, with the Swedish club massively on the up under Englishman Potter.

From Celtic’s point of view, either selling Henderson before his contract is up, or loaning him to see if it’s worth offering an extension, seems the right move.

Likely to happen?

With Henderson so out-of-favour under Rodgers, it seems inevitable that he will exit Parkhead this month.

It just remains to be seen where he will end up.

His successful loan spell in Norway with Rosenborg may convince Henderson that another Scandinavian adventure is a good move.

However, he may also want to stay in Scotland, and with Hibs reportedly interested, that is a move that looks possible too.
