Celtic are working on a deal to rip up Nadir Ciftci’s loan deal at Plymouth Argyle this month, it has been confirmed.

The 25-year-old joined the English League One club on a season-long loan in the summer but has failed to score in any of his eight matches and has made just one appearance since September.

He last featured on 25 November and has been playing for Argyle’s development side in the South West Peninsula League – the 10th tier of English football.

“His agent’s working to find a club for him, and if he can find that then it might be the best solution that Nadir moves on,” said manager Derek Adams, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.

Argyle are Ciftci’s third loan club since moving to Celtic for £1.5million from Dundee United in the summer of 2015. He has also had spells at Turkish club Eskisehirspor and Polish outfit Pogon Szczecin.

Good deal for Celtic?

It is in Celtic’s interests that Ciftic is thriving while out on loan, not rotting in the reserves. His failure to make an impact during successive loan spells is a concern for the Hoops, as it means that he cannot be in contention for their own first team. It is best for the Scottish giants that Ciftci’s agent can find him a new club. Given the ever diminishing goal returns of a forward who once scored 16 goals in a season for Dundee United, the Turk’s representative has his work cut out.

Likely to happen?

Given the forthright public comments of Adams, it is clear that Ciftci’s time at Plymouth is all but up. It is now a matter of his agent securing him a move to a new club, most likely on loan, again this month.
