Scotland Under-17 striker Connor McBride has revealed on social media that he has joined Celtic from Scottish Championship side Falkirk.

The 16-year-old took to his personal Twitter account to confirm that he would be leaving the Bairns to join the Hoops.

Celtic have not officially confirmed the news, but McBride is clearly pictured at Parkhead in a club jersey and holding aloft their scarf.

McBride was the subject of reported interest from Newcastle United last year but the Scottish champions have won the race for the highly rated youngster.

He is set to continue his development with Celtic’s age-group sides as he aims to push for a first team place in the future.

OPINION

This is a brilliant opportunity for McBride to build upon the fine impression he has made at Falkirk and for Scotland’s youth teams. Renowned for his pace and ability to harass defenders with his directness, the teenager was named last week in Brian McLaughlin’s Scotland U-17s pool for next month’s International Challenge matches against Poland, Spain and France. In a sign of his emerging star status, McBride was joined in the squad by the likes of Chelsea kid Billy Gilmour, Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude and Hearts’ Brighton-bound midfielder Marc Leonard. The new Celtic signing clearly has an exciting future ahead of him.
