Celtic could offer rising star Mark Hill to help secure the signing of St Mirren attacking midfielder Lewis Morgan, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Scottish champions are close to completing a deal for Morgan, 21, in January that would see him sign a contract to join the Hoops permanently and then return to the Saints on loan for the rest of the season.

The Mail report that central midfielder Hill, 19, could move to the Scottish Championship side in a player-plus-cash exchange to help sweeten the deal.

It is said that no agreement has yet been reached for the Rangers academy product, who has been integral in St Mirren’s run to the top of the Scottish second tier this season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.

Good move for Celtic?

The possibility of Scotland Under-19 international Hill moving to St Mirren in part exchange for Morgan is a stunning twist in the final stages of this deal. The central midfielder has yet to make his senior Hoops bow but has progressed through the clubs ranks to be a key player in the UEFA competitions as well as amassing eight Scotland Under-19 caps. There would be twin benefits for Celtic to this player exchange, as not only could it seal the deal for Morgan, who has scored 12 goals and supplied eight assists from 25 matches in all competitions, but would enable Hill to develop and play regularly at a senior level.

Likely to happen?

Whether Hill is part of the deal or not, it now appears a matter of time before Morgan is confirmed as a Celtic player before re-joining St Mirren for the remainder of the campaign. Expect an announcement in the coming days.
