Wolves are among four clubs keeping tabs on Newcastle winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni who was dubbed the ‘non-league Riyad Mahrez’ before his move to Tyneside, according to the Daily Star

The newspaper report that the 22-year-old is seeking reassurances from Rafa Benitez about his future at the club, after being at the centre of the bullying scandal involving club legend Peter Beardsley.

The Star report El-Mhanni is likely to be let go on a cut-price deal this month in order to give him a fresh start, with his contract up in the summer.

It is said that Premier League sides Leicester and Stoke are also interested, along with Wolves’ Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Good move for Wolves?

El-Mhanni is obviously a quality player, being handed his debut by Rafa Benitez last year, but he has failed to force his way into the first-team picture since.

His trickery and silky skills in wide areas would be a dangerous asset for any team, and it looks about time that the 22-year-old is tested in a first-team environment.

Wolves would do well to secure his services, as there is obvious competition for his signature.

Likely to happen?

It is hard to say at the moment.

El-Mhanni’s future at Newcastle has obviously not been decided yet, but it looks likely that he may be allowed to leave this month.

With Premier League interest from Leicester and Stoke you would think that those two teams are in pole position, but Wolves are nevertheless in with a shout.
