West Ham without Lanzini for six weeks

|

West Ham are set to be without Manuel Lanzini for six weeks due to the injury he sustained in Saturday’s draw with Bournemouth, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim that the attacking midfielder sustained a hamstring problem in the Hammers’ last game and will be out until March.

The Times report that the news comes on the back of Andy Carroll being ruled out for three months with a hairline fracture; and that these injuries end the prospect of Carroll and Javier Hernandez leaving.

Lanzini has been a standout player for West Ham this season, registering eight assists in 20 appearances.

The 24-year-old’s injury is likely to see him miss several crucial league games against relegation rivals, including matches against Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Brighton.

OPINION

West Ham can cope without Carroll, but having Lanzini out for six weeks is a real blow. The Hammers have been without the attacking midfielder before this season; due to a suspension and him having a knee injury during the opening weeks of the campaign. Lanzini missed six league games in total, and West Ham lost four of them. The 24-year-old’s creativity presence is notably missed when he is absent. Lanzini’s injury could not come at a worse time, as he’s needed in the important games against West Ham’s relegation rivals. As it stands David Moyes’ side only sit four clear of the drop zone.
