West Ham have met with Jonny Castro’s agent, Joseba Diaz, and are keen to sign the full-back before the end of the January transfer window, according to TeamTalk.

The website claim that Celta Vigo would demand £14million for the 23-year-old, who was the subject of a rejected bid from West Ham last year,

TeamTalk report that Diaz had meetings with the Hammers, Atletico Madrid and AS Roma, and that he along with his client will make a decision about a move in the next week or so.

West Ham may be leading the race for the defender who can play on either flank as well as centre-back, due to Castro having ambitions to play in England.

Castro is contracted to Celta Vigo until June 2019, and has made 22 appearances across all competitions for his club this season.

The 23-year-old defender is also capped at U-21 level for Spain, having made 18 appearances.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes. The defender is not only young and experienced, having played 203 times for Celta Vigo; he’s versatile.

Castro would offer cover across the defence, as well as being capable of staking a claim to be a regular first-team member.

Also given his age and reputation, £14million seems a bargain price given the current market.

Likely to happen?

West Ham face tough competition for the defender, given the fact the likes of Atletico Madrid and AS Roma have met with the player’s agent.

However, with the player wanting to play in England, it might just be enough to see the player arrive at the London Stadium.

The £14million price-tag shouldn’t be a stumbling block for the Hammers.
