West Ham deny Davies bid

|

West Ham assistant manager Alan Irvine has denied that the club have made a bid for Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

Reports have linked the Hammers with an audacious bid to take 19-year-old Davies to the London Stadium this month, with the versatile midfielder struggling to nail down a starting spot under Sam Allardyce.

But Irvine, who was key to Davies’ development during his time as head of the Toffee’s academy, has denied that his new club have made an offer for the young star.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Irvine said: “I know him well, worked with him since he was 13 or 14 and is a really talented player but to my understanding, we have not made any approach to Everton.”

Davies has made 30 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions this campaign, playing both in the centre of midfield and on the flanks.

Good move for West Ham?

This would be a shrewd move from the Hammers.

Davies has burst into Premier League football with aplomb, and has become a key player in the Everton squad at just 19 years old.

His stunning goal against Manchester City last season really announced his arrival into senior football, and if his development continues at this pace he will undoubtedly be pulling on an England shirt in the near future.

West Ham are looking for midfield reinforcements, and Davies would be a great addition, not only for the rest of this season but for years to come as well.

Likely to happen?

Well, if this one is to happen then West Ham need to make an approach first.

And, even if they did, it would be hard to see Davies leaving Goodison Park, especially this month.

The 19-year-old was born in Liverpool, has come through the club’s academy, and is just establishing himself in the Premier League.

It would be a bit ridiculous for him to leave Everton for lack of playing time, especially considering Allardyce is still relatively new in the job.
