Jann-Fiete Arp has achieved a lot in the past year or so.
The Hamburg striker, who just turned 18 on the 6th of January, is the most recent Under-17 winner of the Fritz Walter medal, an award that recognises the best of Germany’s young footballing talent.
Past winners of the award include Manuel Neuer, Emre Can, Mario Gotze and Toni Kroos.
That came after he had blown the competition away in the Under-17 Bundesliga with 26 goals in 21 games.
He then went to the Under-17 European Championships to lead the line for a promising Germany side, going on to score seven goals as they made the semi-finals.
His two hat-tricks in the tournament made him the first player to achieve that feat in a UEFA tournament at that level.
He led Germany into the Under-17 World Cup just a few months later, finishing as his side’s top scorer as they bowed out at the quarter-final stage.
He was handed his Hamburg senior debut on the 30th of September, before bagging his first goal in his second appearance, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to score in the Bundesliga.
He followed up that goal with another in his first start, scoring in a 3-1 win over Stuttgart.
Aside from all this, it may come as a surprise to hear that Arp bases his game not on a German star, but on Harry Kane.
As quoted by the BBC, Arp said: “He plays the way I want to play. He’s pacy and very comfortable with and without the ball. It’s difficult to stop him. You need to pay attention for 90 minutes because he can score at any time.”
“He went through all the youth teams in his club, became a first-team player in that club and was even the league’s top scorer, twice. Now, he’s an international. In the space of three years, Kane has made every step that you dream of as a young player.”
Now, as reported by the Mirror, Tottenham have contacted Hamburg about the possibility of bringing the wonderkid to north London to play with his idol.
This would be the perfect signing for Spurs as they look to bring in attacking reinforcements.
The club are reportedly on the hunt for a young striker, and there aren’t many better around than Arp.
Spurs are in desperate need of a player who can play second fiddle to Kane, with Fernando Llorente disappointing so far this season.
Arp would be able to come in and slot straight into the squad, while also providing Mauricio Pochettino with a brilliant young player he can mould and develop as he does so well.
Hamburg are not going anywhere fast in the Bundesliga, with the club flirting with relegation once again this campaign.
Arp will soon want to be playing football at the top level, and Spurs can offer him the chance to do so.
Daniel Levy must convert these initial enquiries into more concrete interest before other clubs come circling and Spurs lose the young star.
