Paul Merson has predicted Tottenham to win when they host Everton on Saturday evening in the Premier League.

Spurs welcome the Toffees to Wembley at the weekend for a league clash and the teams are in contrasting form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions and will be looking to force their way back into the top four spots.

The north London club are three points adrift of Liverpool in fourth and are aiming to secure Champions League football for another season.

Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce’s team have lost their last three consecutive games and the Toffees have now won since 18 December against Swansea.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has tipped Spurs to continue their good form with a 2-0 home win and inflict more damage on a struggling Everton team.

“Spurs struggled at home to West Ham and it took them a while to break down AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup,” he wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

“But I think they will have too much for an Everton side who are going to sit back and play tight.

“It has worked for them in the past, but they don’t have enough pace on the counter to hurt Tottenham.”

OPINION

Spurs need to keep up their momentum if they are to end up in the top four come the end of the season and producing consistent performances at their temporary home of Wembley is vital. Pochettino’s side are always going to be in the mix when they have got Harry Kane firing on all cylinders in front of goal, but the form of rivals such as Liverpool and Chelsea will concern them. Everton on the other hand have moved on from the Allardyce honeymoon period and now need to try regain their form. They have managed to sign centre-forward Cenk Tosun from Besiktas and he should give them a major lift at the point of attack.
