Tottenham have agreed the terms of a double deal for central midfielder Luke Amos, it has been announced.

Spurs revealed on their official website and Twitter account on Monday after that the rising star, 20, has signed a contract extension with the club that runs until 2019 and has joined Stevenage on loan for the rest of the season.

Amos has been a mainstay of the Tottenham Under-23s this season, making 15 appearances for the age-group side.

He heads to League Two outfit Stevenage after spending the second half of last season on loan at Southend United in a division higher, but he made just three League One appearances.

Amos, who turns 21 next month, is yet to make his senior Tottenham debut.

He was pictured on the official Stevenage website in their full training gear at their headquarters as he got down to action at his temporary employers.

OPINION

It is entirely logical for Amos to spent the rest of the season out on loan, as it should be with any 20-plus player at the club who is not in genuine first team contention. Truth be told, Amos is nowhere near the first team set-up at his parent club and it is best for his development that he heads out to a League Two club, where he can expect regular first-team football and hone his game against grizzled professionals. Spurs clearly rate the youngster, as he is at an age now where he would be offloaded permanently if the coaching staff did not think he could make it. The new contract is a sign of the esteem in which he is held, and the confirmed double deal paves the way for him to achieve new heights.
