Tottenham fans delighted that Alderweireld on the mend

|

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at reports that Toby Alderweireld is set to return to first-team training next week.

Kristof Terreur, who writes for Belgian publication HLN, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 28-year-old is “recovering well” from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him since 1 November.

The Belgium international is training alone and will rejoin his teammates in practice next week ahead of an anticipated return to action at the start of February.

Alderweireld could still miss three more games in January as Spurs face Southampton and Manchester United in the Premier League and an FA Cup fourth round tie against Newport County.

But his imminent return will strengthen Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of the Champions League knockout stages and the Premier League run-in as Spurs battle to secure a top-four finish.

Tottenham fans are in no doubt about the significance of Alderweireld and Terreur’s fascinating update was met by a series of excited posts on social media by those hailing it as welcome news.
