West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Newcastle United outcast Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster report that the Baggies are in the market for a striker this month as Alan Pardew looks to steer his side clear of relegation.

Sky claim however that any incoming is dependent on funds that would come in from a sale of captain Jonny Evans, who has been heavily linked with a move away this month.

Serbia international Mitrovic, 23, has not started a Premier League match for the Magpies this season after falling out of favour under Rafa Benitez.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Mitrovic looks on his way out of St. James’ Park, either this month or in the summer.

For one reason or another, Benitez has preferred Dwight Gayle and Joselu up front for the Magpies this season, despite both struggling to get on the scoresheet regularly.

Mitrovic will want to be playing regular football between now and the end of the season, with his place in Serbia’s World Cup squad at stake.

A sale looks the best move for both parties, but Benitez will want to make sure his squad can handle Mitrovic’s departure before sanctioning any move away.

Likely to happen?

If West Brom do sell Evans then they will have some big money to spend, and if they make a decent offer for Mitrovic then Newcastle will most likely accept.

However, Benitez is unlikely to let Mitrovic go without a replacement coming in first, and so a deal may have to happen quickly.
