Everton striker Sandro Ramirez is keen to join La Liga side Sevilla and not Premier League rivals Newcastle United, according to a reliable journalist.

Paul Brown, a freelancer who features regularly in the Daily Express and Daily Star, claimed on Twitter on Thursday that Sandro’s agent had emphatically informed Sevilla they were his client’s preferred destination.

However, Brown also claims that Sevilla are still chasing Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi as their first choice striking option.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Newcastle tabled a £2million loan bid for Sandro, who has disappointed at the Toffees since a £5million move from Malaga in the summer.

The newspaper claim that the Magpies are willing to pay the 22-year-old’s £100,000-a-week wages in full.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Sandro arrived as a real prospect from Malaga in the summer, but it has not quite turned out that way at Goodison Park.

The former Barcelona man has scored just once, in the Europa League, for Everton in 15 appearances in all competitions.

However, there have been small signs that Sandro could become a success in the Premier League, so it is not a massive surprise to see Rafa Benitez move for him.

The Magpies desperately need goals, and Sandro’s record of 16 in 31 matches for Malaga suggest he can be that man if he finds some form in England.

Likely to happen?

For two major reasons, no.

Firstly, Newcastle are known to be focusing their efforts on Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen, and rumours surrounding an approach for Sandro have died down in the last couple of days.

Second, Sandro is obviously keen on a move back to Spain, and does not see a move north to Newcastle as a good option.

This would seem to suggest a move is not likely this month.
