Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Andre Schurrle after the 27-year-old was made available for loan this month, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper claim that Dortmund are willing to pay half of Schurrle’s £150,000-a-week wages at his new club, as they look to decrease their expenditure.

The Mail report that Dortmund’s preferred option is an 18-month loan deal, but the German giants are just keen to offload some of the winger’s high wages.

Stoke are the other English club reportedly showing interest in the World Cup winner, who has also won the Premier League title with Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.

Good move for Newcastle United?

This would be a stunning move for Newcastle.

Schurrle is a fantastic player who has vast experience at the top level in both England and Germany, and he would be a brilliant addition to the Newcastle squad.

His stint with Chelsea is key here as he would be able to come straight into the side having played in the Premier League beforehand, which is essential for any new signings this month.

His pace and direct play on the wings is supplemented by a brilliant final ball, and the 27-year-old also scores regularly from the flank.

Likely to happen?

It does look like Schurrle is to leave Dortmund this month, with the Bundesliga giants seemingly keen to offload his huge wage packet.

Whether he will end up at Newcastle is hard to say, as there will surely be other clubs that enter the race for his services in the coming days.

A move back to the Premier League looks a good option for Schurrle right now, and if Newcastle decide they want to make an approach then this could well happen.

With the end of the window approaching, the Magpies need to move fast if they are to secure Schurrle, or anyone for that matter, with Rafa Benitez yet to make a signing.
