Liverpool are ready to bid around £17.6million for AS Roma’s Emerson Palmieri after Mohamed Salah recommended the defender, according to Forza Roma.

The website claim that the Reds are set to make a huge offer for Palmieri, with the left-back keen on a move to the Premier League.

Forza Roma report that Palmieri has been made available by his club and he will depart AS Roma.

The 23-year-old has been suggested by Salah as a player the Reds should sign, after the two spent time together at AS Roma.

Palmieri has made one appearance for AS Roma in Serie A this season, and that was a 15 minute cameo at the start of December.

The left-back has seen his season disrupted as he started the campaign ruled out with a serious knee injury.

Palmieri is known for his crossing ability, as well as his tendency to dribble past players when he breaks forward from the back to aid his side’s attack.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes. While the Reds look like they’ve finally sorted their problems at left-back, given Andy Robertson’s recent performances; Palmieri would still be a good option.

Robertson and Palmieri are the same age and could provide fierce competition for each other, for many seasons to come.

This competition could lead to both of them improving in order to keep their place in the team.

Also given the defender’s age and reputation, nearly £20million is a reasonable deal, but the Reds will have to be scrupulous with their medical, given his recent injury.

Likely to happen?

Liverpool definitely have the funds to bid above £20million for the defender, given the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

However, given how Robertson is performing and the fact Jurgen Klopp will not want to rush into any decision about splashing the Coutinho cash; this may not happen just yet.

The 23-year-old is definitely an option, but the Reds will only act quickly if another interested party forces them to.
