Liverpool and Arsenal went on a transfer mission to watch Stevenage’s 18-year-old defender Ben Wilmot as he made his first senior start, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the two Premier League giants’ scouts witnessed the defender’s composed performance in the FA Cup against Reading on Saturday.

The Daily Mail report that the defender is set to have a big move in his future, but for now he focuses on appearing in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday.

Stevenage manager Darren Sarll had high praise for the 18-year-old, comparing him to Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson who he had recruited at Brentford.

“He (Wilmot) didn’t look 18, did he? He’s got a reading of the game, and an intelligence,” said Sarll, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“‘I was very lucky at Brentford that I recruited a young man called Alfie Mawson, who’d been released from Reading.

“They have a very similar compatibility between them as players and people, both have got a fantastic desire. Alfie has gone on to play at the very top and for his country (at Under-21 level).”

Good move for Liverpool?

The defender is highly spoke of by his manager and is already having multiple clubs watch him perform.

Therefore the defender must be showcasing some promising attributes to attract two lots of scouts on only his first senior appearances.

It’s always a good move to plan for the future and Wilmot definitely looks like having a bright one, Liverpool just have ensure it’s with them.

Likely to happen?

The defender is certainly going to move to a club bigger than Stevenage in his future if he continues to put in solid performances at a young age and fulfill his potential.

However, it doesn’t look like being anytime soon as both Liverpool and Arsenal are just keeping their eyes on him for now as he makes his first steps into senior football.
