Idrissa Gueye earns £75,000-a-week at Everton, according to official FA documents discovered by The Sun.

The newspaper claim that the documents prove the central midfielder signed a new five-year-deal in October, even though the Toffees never officially confirmed that he agreed to a new contract.

The FA update their players files throughout the season, modifying them when a new contract has been signed by a player and Everton submitted documents on October 27 to confirm that Gueye had agreed a new deal.

According to the FA files discovered by The Sun, Gueye now earns £75,000-a-week, meaning he earns £4million-a-season, after he committed his long-term future to the Toffees back in October.

The newspaper believes the Toffees handed the bumper new deal to the 28-year-old as his performances had seen Premier League rivals become interested in signing him.

This season Gueye has continued to be a regular for Everton, making 26 appearances across all competitions.

OPINION

It is strange Everton never officially confirmed that the central midfielder had signed a new five-year-deal with the club, as it would have been celebrated by fans. The central midfielder since joining from Aston Villa has cemented himself in the Toffees first-team and has become a fan favourite due to the way he battles for the ball. That said, £75,000-a-week is a huge wage for Everton to give the midfielder even with his impressive performances. The Toffees must have been really concerned that Gueye would want to leave them for another Premier League club for them to hand him a wage of that nature. However, this season he was one of the only players who managed to put in good performances during the first half of the season, when Everton were struggling to earn points in the league.
