Everton have allowed young attacker Ademola Lookman to leave the club on loan to RB Leipzig for the rest of the season.

The club announced the news on their official website on Wednesday evening, just hours before the transfer deadline at 11pm.

Lookman will spend the remainder of the campaign with the Bundesliga high-flyers, who currently sit in fifth place after finishing an impressive second in their first top-flight season last time out.

The 20-year-old winger was an £8million signing from Charlton Athletic one year ago, and he has made 24 first-team appearance for the Toffees since then.

He has however seemed out of favour with Sam Allardyce since his arrival on Merseyside, not appearing in any of their last six Premier League games.

OPINION

This is a strange one from Everton, and it is doubtful that fans will be happy. Lookman is one of the club’s best young talents, and has shown that he has what it takes to perform at senior level. He always looks a threat in wide areas, and offers Everton a different option going forward. Admittedly, the arrival of Theo Walcott may have pushed him down the pecking order, but there was still reason for the club to keep hold of him. Anyhow, a loan to Leipzig is an exciting opportunity for Lookman, who will likely make some good strides in his development during the next few months in Germany.
