Burnley have agreed a deal with Everton to sign Aaron Lennon this month, according to a reliable journalist.

BBC Sport correspondent David Ornstein reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the Premier League high flyers have agreed personal terms with Lennon as well as a fee with the Merseyside outfit.

Ornstein added that the winger, 30, still needs to undergo a medical at Burnley but he is close to finalising the transfer.

Lennon has appeared in Everton’s last 14 league matches but is surplus to requirements following the £20million signing earlier this week of Theo Walcott from Arsenal.

The former England international joined the Merseysiders from Tottenham in the summer of 2015 but he is out of contract in the summer.

Good move for Everton?

Securing a fee, even at the knockdown £1.5million price that has been touted, for a player who turns 31 in April and is out of contract in the summer is no catastrophe for Everton. But Lennon has been a regular under Sam Allardyce and has showed in recent months he can still be a force in the Premier League. Burnley, who are ahead of Everton at seventh in the league after a brilliant opening half of the campaign, have signed a fine player who can be another very shrewd acquisition for them.

Likely to happen?

Barring a late collapse in talks, or Lennon failing the medical, this is a done deal. Ornstein is a reliable journalist and he only usually reports on deals when they are at an advanced stage.
