Allardyce reissues Everton striker plea

|

Sam Allardyce has reiterated Everton’s need to sign a striker in January after watching his side slump to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United.

The Toffees boss had previously revealed that the club need a striker in order to push on, and Allardyce was keen to share his intentions again with the Daily Mirror.

“Our attacking powers are limited, that’s why I’ve worked so hard on keeping clean sheets,” admitted Allardyce.

“We need to strengthen the front line, we’re trying to do the hardest job of all by securing a player in that position.”

The Toffees’ quest to sign a new striker has reportedly led them to Cenk Tosun who the club were hoping to seal a deal for on Tuesday according to the Times.

However, there’s an issue with the deal, as Besiktas want £27million and Everton are only offering them £25million.

Everton have only scored one goal in their last four league games, earning only two points from those games.

However, one of those points was from an impressive 0-0 draw against Chelsea, where the Toffees showcased their resilience.

OPINION

Allardyce has shown his ability to tighten up Everton’s defence with the squad they already have, but he can’t work miracles with that strikeforce. The Toffees should be impressed with 20-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s performance, but he hasn’t been prolific. There’s also the fact that while Wayne Rooney is their top goalscorer, he is better utilised in midfield. If Everton fail to acquire a striker in January, they won’t be able to push further up the league this season.
