England football legend Sir Geoff Hurst has urged Tottenham to give Harry Kane a new improved £200,000-a-week contract to merit his outstanding performances.

The 24-year-old centre-forward has become a key player under manager Mauricio Pochettino and has been in sensational goalscoring form this season.

He has netted 26 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions this campaign and is recognised as one of the best attackers in world football.

The England international recently revealed that he has not been offered a new deal with the north London club to extend his existing £100,000-a-week contract.

The Independent previously reported that Kane was in line for a new Spurs deal worth £200,000-a-week, but it seems that is off the mark for now.

Hurst believes that Kane would be contempt staying with Spurs in the long term regardless of silverware if he had an equal wage to the Premier League’s other top earners.

“Players talk about winning trophies but I’m not sure that is the ultimate goal. If I was to look at Harry Kane I’d say if you were to stay at Tottenham now, a magnificent club with a new stadium playing in a fantastic team, that’s always around if he didn’t win a trophy,” Hurst said, as quoted by talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams on Soundcloud.

“He needs to be on the same money as the other big boys in the £200,000 [a week] bracket, if he gets that he’s with two great creators Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen playing brilliantly.”

OPINION

There is no doubt that Spurs need to smash their wage structure to accommodate centre-forward Kane in their squad as his consistency in the past few years proves he is a phenomenal talent. The striker has now scored 125 goals in 192 games and would arguably leave a club legend already if he was to walk out the exit doors tomorrow. However, the long-term plan for the club must centre around the Englishman and he is the best striker in the Premier League right now. Kane was also the highest scorer during 2017 and even surpassed the great Lionel Messi for calendar year goals for club and country (56).
