Leeds United have been predicted to narrowly secure a place in the Championship play-offs by the Sky Sports Predictor.

The broadcaster’s prediction system is based on a process called Elo, which was initially developed to rate chess players.

The system takes into account a team’s form, their opponents between now and the end of the season, and their performances at this stage in previous campaigns.

At such a crucial stage of the season, with the Championship campaign entering crunch time, the Sky predictor has delivered it’s assessment of the table.

It predicts that Wolves will finish top, with Derby securing automatic promotion, and Cardiff, Bristol City, Aston Villa and Leeds making up the play-offs, with the Whites in a nail-biting sixth place.

Thomas Christiansen’s side are predicted as having a 47% chance of finishing in the top six, and a minimal 5% chance of securing automatic promotion.

OPINION

Leeds fans would bite your hand off if you handed them sixth right now, but it is not about a computer predicting results, it is about going out and getting them. The Whites have suffered a slight blip in the last few weeks, losing to Birmingham before a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest. A disappointing FA Cup exit to League Two minnows Newport County may be the most damaging result however, with star playmaker Samu Saiz to serve a six-match ban for spitting at an opposition player.
