Swedish forward Erion Sadiku has arrived at Leeds United to undergo a trial, it has been announced.

Sadiku’s club Varbergs BoiS reported on their official website on Monday evening that the attacker, 15, will spend this week with the Championship giants as they run the rule over him ahead of a possible move.

Pictures showed Sadiku in full Leeds training kit at the club’s academy base in their Thorp Arch headquarters.

Speaking to the website, Varbergs’ sporting director Kujtim Bala is hopeful the teenager can make a big impact in what are challenging circumstances.

“It’s extremely useful for a younger talent to visit another environment,” Bala said. “We want to educate brave players, and I think you can develop courage by being thrown into uncomfortable environments and learning how to handle it.

“As the sporting director, I hope that Erie’s journey is a starting point for all our youth’s dreams. Good luck to Erion.”

The Swedish club play in the second division and finished 11th in the recently completed Superettan campaign.

OPINION

Leeds are always on the look-out for the next generation of stars and have showed since Andrea Radrizzani took full control last May that they are willing to spread their transfer net all over the Continent for outstanding talent. United have three Swedish players already in their senior squad, Pontus Jansson, Pawel Cibicki and Marcus Antonsson, who is on a season-long loan at Blackburn. Jansson has been a huge success since joining in the summer of 2016 and is widely regarded as one of the team’s outstanding players. The aim for Sadiku will be to show the Leeds coaches that he has the potential to go as far as his three countrymen, and earn a contract with the club’s academy.
