Leeds United have agreed one striker signing and are interested in sealing a second one before the January window shuts, according to reports.

Football Insider claimed early on Monday afternoon that the Yorkshire giants have agreed a deal to sign Leyton Orient centre-forward Sam Dalby.

It is said that the powerful front man has agreed the terms of a two-and-a-half year contract and is set to put pen to paper in the next 24 hours if he completes the formalities of medical tests scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday).

Sky Sports reported on their website hours later that Leeds are also interested in signing West Brom striker Tyler Roberts, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Rangers and Marseille have also been strongly linked with the 19-year-old, who has returned to his parent club after spending the first half of the season on loan at League One club Walsall.

OPINION

Leeds fans might be exasperated that the two striker deals they are working on are for teenagers, one 18 and the other 19, who have never played above England’s third tier. Some see the focus on rising stars in the transfer market as far too long term and penny pinching. It is a fair point, but Leeds have already forked out £6million on two new signings in their mid 20s this month – Adam Forshaw and Laurens De Bock – and tying up deals for Dalby and Roberts could have short term as well as medium term benefits. Dalby would initially link up with the club’s Under-23s, but Roberts would be a signing for the here and now. He has demonstrated his potential with five goals in 19 appearances for Walsall this season and is an in-demand player who West Brom want to keep. Were Leeds to land both front men, it would be smart business.
