Midfielder Ouasim Bouy will return to Leeds United early from his loan spell at Spanish club Cultural Leonesa, it has been announced.

Leonesa announced on their official website on Wednesday that the loan of the United player ended today and he is heading back to Elland Road.

The midfield anchorman, 24, joined Leonesa last summer on a season-long loan from Leeds after they signed him on a four-year deal following his release from Juventus.

Buoy will arrive at his parent club six months earlier than expected after being barely used in Spain, making just four appearances in all competitions.

Good move for Leeds?

Not really. If Buoy can’t get a game at the team placed 17th in the second tier of Spanish football, he will struggle to break into an English Championship side with genuine promotion hopes. Leeds would be better off sending the Dutch enforcer out on another loan for the second half of the campaign, perhaps following Marcus Antonsson and Lewie Coyle into League One. At the present time, that appears his natural level. The word from Spain is that Leonesa decided to offload Bouy back to his parent club to free up space on their wage bill, to enable them to bring in new arrivals. The player surely can’t figure in Thomas Christiansen’s immediate plans as he has had only 11 minutes of first-team action since late September.
