Leeds United have been installed second favourites to sign Brentford striker Lasse Vibe, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor have opened up a market on the Denmark international amid reports he could quit Griffin Park before the transfer window shuts on Wednesday.

Leeds were priced at 7/1 on Sunday night to land the centre-forward, behind only any Chinese club (evens) and ahead in the betting race of Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa (8/1).

Leeds are in the market for a new striker as they aim to strengthen their promotion pursuit.

They announced the signing of forward Sam Dalby, 18, from Leyton Orient on Tuesday but he is viewed as one for the future and will link up initially with the club’s Under-23s.

The club have been linked with more senior and expensive options, including Vibe, Aston Villa’s Ross McCormack, Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill, Peterborough’s Jack Marriott and West Brom’s Tyler Roberts.

OPINION

Vibe is a striker who would offer a new dimension to the Leeds front line. He has an eyecatching record at Brentford and in his native Denmark as well as the pedigree that comes with 11 international caps. Aged 30, he is vastly experienced but a proven scorer, too, and is also capable of creating goals. He has netted 37 times in 97 Brentford games and has an impressive record this season of a goal every 163 minutes. At Danish big guns Gothenburg, he scored 46 goals and supplied 24 assists in 74 matches. Those are the kind of stats that could transform Leeds from play-off hopefuls to top-six certs.
