Scott Hogan has urged Steve Bruce to call off Aston Villa’s hunt for a new striker, as he will deliver the goals.

The Villans forward, who has scored in his last two Championship appearances, has revealed that he can step up in the absence of Jonathan Kodjia.

“I will tell the manager ‘don’t bother’,” shared Hogan, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“If you want to go and get someone, go on, but he isn’t going to play because I will keep my place, I’m not giving it up now.”

The 25-year-old has been plagued by injury problems since joining Aston Villa from Brentford for £12million in January 2017, and as such has only scored five goals.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa by the Birmingham Mail in recent weeks, as Bruce is keen to get a replacement from Kodjia who is ruled out through injury.

OPINION

Hogan is right to be confident about his abilities as all strikers should be, but to urge Bruce to call off the hunt for a new striker is bold. The 25-year-old has only recently started scoring goals, and with his injury record, can’t be relied on. It’s true Hogan’s form may keep a new signing from instantly featuring in the team, but Bruce needs options. Without Kodjia, Bruce is a striker down and his options were already limited. There are a lot of games left in the Championship season, and Bruce can’t avoid to not add another option up front if he wishes to win promotion.
