Everton seriously need to add a new striker to their ranks and could find it hard pulling in a top name in the January market, which is why they should hijack Newcastle’s reported pursuit of striker Dimitri Oberlin.

The Toffees need to improve upon their current options of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse when the transfer window re-opens to help Sam Allardyce’s team continue their upturn in form.

The Sun report that Newcastle are currently leading the chase to sign RB Salzburg’s Oberlin, who is currently out on loan at FC Basel.

It is explained that the Magpies are considered frontrunners ahead of Manchester United for his signature and that the 20-year-old is valued at £20million.

The report details that Newcastle will need to try offload Aleksandar Mitrovic in order for the deal to happen and that would leave the perfect opportunity for Everton to swoop in.

Everton should be looking to invest in a hungry young striker that can lead the line at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future and this upcoming Switzerland Under-21 international could be the answer.

Oberlin is an upcoming centre-forward that is making a great impression out on loan with Basel and is proving he has a deft touch in front of goal.

The pacy attacker has scored eight goals in 23 games so far this season and that is without being an ever-present in the starting XI.

He clearly has huge potential and has taken a particular shine to the Champions League by scoring four times in the six group games of the competition.

Oberlin is a highly-rated talent that has been tipped for greatness in the past and Everton should consider swooping in before his price tag rockets even higher.
