Everton may reportedly sell midfielder Mo Besic in January and Celtic should be waiting in the wings trying to pounce for his signature.

The Daily Mail claims that the Toffees are trying to sign Steven Nzonzi from Sevilla and that his potential arrival would cast further doubt over the future of Besic.

It is understood that Everton manager Sam Allardyce wants to keep James McCarthy as an option at Goodison Park, but is not concerned about either Besic or Morgan Schneiderlin.

Besic could be up for grabs in the New Year and he would be an excellent addition for Celtic.

The 25-year-old is renowned for being a no-nonsense combative central midfielder and would add some real steel to the Scottish giants.

He has made just eight senior appearances for the Everton so far this campaign despite full returning from injury and Parkhead could be the perfect platform for him to reignite his career.

The Bosnia international acts as a brilliant defensive screen in front of the back four and has been popular with the Toffees fans since his £4million move.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers does have Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham and Stuart Armstrong as his main options in the middle of the park, but that could prove too light going into the second half of the season.

The Scottish giants are hopeful of going deep into the Europa League and Besic has experience in that competition.

The midfield destroyer would also reinforce the squad and the 25-year-old would be a top signing if he can rediscover his top form.
